What’s happening?

2 new railway stations are being built along the Walsall – Wolverhampton line at Darlaston and Willenhall.

Willenhall station will provide quicker and more reliable journeys to places like Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Walsall, reducing congestion and pollution.

The station will have 2 platforms, lifts, ticket machines, information screens and secure bike parking.

Noose Lane to Pinson Road Cycle Route

From January 2025 until the Autumn, work is underway to create a new segregated cycle route from along the A454 Willenhall Road and Somerford Place. This marks the start of wider improvements along the A454 Corridor.  

An outline of the works include:  

  • New Segregated Cycle Route – The majority of the cycle route will include a 3m wide cycleway providing two-way movement, separate from traffic and pedestrians with the aim of promoting a safe and sustainable mode of transport. 
  • New Cycle & Pedestrian Crossing Facilities – Existing signalised crossing points shall be upgraded to provide dedicated cycle crossings along the A454 Willenhall Road prior to Portobello roundabout. 
  • Bus Lane Removal, Somerford Place – The short priority bus lane on Somerford Place will be removed to accommodate the new cycleway.

From Monday 31 March:


Somerford Place 


There is one way traffic flow in place westbound towards Wolverhampton on B4464 Somerford Place from Pinson Road roundabout to Portobello roundabout.  


Willenhall Road 


Off -peak lane closures are in place between 09.30 – 15:00 from Portobello roundabout along A454, Willenhall Road.  


Affected Bus Services:  


National Express West Midlands 529 towards Walsall; Carolean Coaches 23 / 23A are diverting into Willenhall via Keyway and Bilston Road to Market Place

Travel tips

You will still be able to get to where you need to go, but consider the following:

Think about your options. Please plan ahead and allow more time for your journey.
Your bus stop may have been temporarily moved. All bus services are running and you will be able to get to where you need to go.
Please note there is reduced car park capacity at Priestfield tram stop from 1 April. An alternative tram stop is available at Bradley Lane or please visit Park and ride | Transport for West Midlands
