Mobility hubs

Local Travel Points: mobility hubs in the West Midlands

Mobility hubs offer a range of transport options and community services in one place. In the West Midlands, we’re calling them Local Travel Points. In the coming years, we will open Local Travel Points at key locations including high streets, rail and bus stations, housing developments, and leisure centres.

Local Travel Points in Halesowen

We have begun to introduce Local Travel Points in partnership with Dudley Council and Black Country Transport. The three-hub pilot is underway in Halesowen. Residents and visitors can access a range of services from Halesowen bus station, Huntingtree Park, and Cross Street. The services include:

The Local Travel Points at Andrew Road and Huntingtree Park were the first to be accredited 'Gold' by CoMoUK, the national organisation for shared transport.

You can learn more about the pilot and tell us about your experience using Commonplace, the online engagement platform for the scheme.

Spotted something that doesn't look right? Tell us.

What will Local Travel Points offer elsewhere?

We will tailor what's available at each hub to match local need. The range of services will include:

  • Shared transport services, like WM Cycle Hire and by-the-hour 'car club' car rental
  • Support for active travel, including tool stations and secure cycle parking
  • Public space with greenery, seating, and shelter
  • Local information, including timetables, walking maps, and notice boards
  • Wider services to help you live locally, from parcel lockers to coffee carts.

Aims

Local Travel Points have great potential to help us make progress towards our emerging vision for the region. The rollout programme aims to:

  • Improve access to your local area by offering affordable and easy-to-use vehicles for short-distance trips
  • Build community focal points around sustainable travel so that new users are introduced to green transport modes
  • Ease public transport trips by providing new ways to travel from rail, bus and metro stops to your destination
  • Enhance the shared transport experience by creating highly-visible points where you know you can pick up a ride.
