Last updated: 13 May 2026
What’s happening?
A large investment programme is taking place in the borough of Dudley.
A number of key projects have already been completed with construction for further projects in the town centre and surrounding areas taking place alongside each other over the next couple of years.
MMA Tram construction activity will continue throughout 2025 and the old Dudley bus station site is undergoing a significant redevelopment to become the modern and sustainable Dudley Bus Interchange.
Highway works are also taking place at Burnt Tree Junction to improve bus journey times and help those walking and cycling around the main roads in this area.
Embankment Merry Hill
To continue the Metro Extension into Merry Hill, work on Embankment will commence. Preliminary works will be taking place to install new lighting columns and prepare the area for main construction.
The following works will be in place from Monday 12 January 2026:
The Embankment – One‑Way System
The one‑way system was reinstated on 12 January 2026 and will remain in place until October 2026 as part of ongoing works.
Waterfront Way (South) – One‑Way System
Waterfront Way (south) operated one‑way for approximately six weeks from 12 January 2026 to support utility works. This phase is now complete.
Full Road Closure Near Gateway Island
A full road closure between Gateway Island and access to the car park took place from March 2026 for up to eight weeks. This closure has now concluded, though further short‑term works may still be required as the project progresses.
