Creative Workshops
This summer, we teamed up with local artists to deliver engaging and creative sessions. These sessions were themed around walking and cycling. They encouraged participants to start thinking about making more journeys using active travel.

This project has now finished, but you can find out more about the sessions and the artists below:
- Walking and Writing- Coventry. series of 90 minute long walking and creative writing sessions. Run by Ania Bas.
- Breaking the Cycle and On your Bike- Birmingham. Series of workshops using visual arts, poetry and music. Encouraging adults and children to express themselves and help improve their mental wellbeing. Run by Artsy Party Kidz.
- Walk and Stitch- Walsall. Exploring nature and local area through creative collage. Run by Makers Circle CIC.
- Creative workshops and wildlife walks- Birmingham. Working with participants to explore their creative interests and skills, before finalising the workshop plans. Run by Becky Sexton.
- Black Country Bikes- Dudley. Series of workshops where participants will explore and create sounds, music and words relating to cycling through a culturally enriching process. Run by Dan Whitehouse.
- Hunt for the Flower of the West Midlands- Wolverhampton. Series of guided painting and photography walks along canals and former railway paths. Run by Ewan Johnston (Bag Lord) Instagram @b4g_lord
- On ya Feet- Sandwell. Street art-inspired shoe customisation workshops. Run by India Rafiqi.
- Collage Workshop- Solihull. Collage drop in session inspired by a memory of the participants experience of cycling or walking. Run by Jenny Lundmark. Instagram @hang_collage
- Cyanotype workshops- All over. Participants meet in local green spaces to follow a simple walking route, collect flowers and plant life, and create beautiful prints together. Run by Lottie Wilson. Instagram @Lottiewilsonphotography
- Participation Painting- location TBC. Artist guides participants to use pen / paint and different types of material. Participants will create their own reflective expressions of what it means to them to walk/ cycle and be part of the community. Run by Robbie Dalal. Instagram @robbied.art
- Black Country Type Photowalk- Dudley. a series of photowalks. At each event I’d introduce my art practice to participants and speak about the relationship between walking/cycling and creativity. My photowalks focus on the value of examine our local environment more closely. Run by Tom Hicks.
- Women in Theatre- Solihull. A fun and engaging new piece of theatre encouraging women to take up cycling. Developed from research with women from diverse backgrounds from across the priority Solihull wards. Run by Women in Theatre.
- Pathways, Routes, Slowing Down- Sandwell. Over a series of 6 workshops we will slowly make our own maps, handheld objects, zines, clay impressions of the environment around us. Run by Amelia Hawk and Anneka French.
- Cycling Spin art- All over. Taking place in schools. Children will have the opportunity to make their own bicycle powered spin art pictures. Run by Benny Semp.
- The Footprints we Leave Behind- Walsall. Series of workshops to co-create ceramic footprint or tyre print plaques. Run by Laura Semp.
