Lucy's Story
Lucy coordinates the RoadPeace West Midlands, West Mercia and Siblings Groups. On 29th November 2014, Lucy’s brother, Peter, was killed while walking home in Birmingham. He crossed the road he lived on and was hit by an uninsured driver, who was doing speeds of 93mph (on a 40mph road), and who fled the scene. The driver eventually pled guilty to Causing Death by Dangerous Driving and was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison.
Peter was an incredible big brother, he was loud and full of life. He cared deeply for his friends, loved horse racing and supported Birmingham City Football Club. He was fit and healthy, and at 39 years old, in the prime of his life.
The shock of Peter’s death has never left his family and friends, he is missed beyond words, leaving a void that can never be filled. The police were clear that had the driver been doing the speed limit, Peter would never have even been hit, let alone killed.
It is Lucy’s hope that through RoadPeace, the life of Peter, and the lives of so many other victims can be remembered, and that we can work to save other families from enduring this preventable and unnecessary devastation.
We have zero tolerance to road incidents.
So what are we doing about it? We are taking action to tackle dangerous and anti-social driving and removing unsafe vehicles from the road. This will range from uninsured drivers, street cruising, dangerous driving and road racing.
You said it, we did it. See our action plan here:
